File This Under Bad Idea?
Do you Stumble? It’s a handy way to find interesting things in your areas of interest. Sometimes I like what I find. Sometimes, I see things that make me really wonder about pet product makers.

A few months ago, I saw a discussion on Facebook between a few dog training folks that essentially blamed people who wear bait bags for ruining the reputation of positive reinforcement trainers. Personally, I disagree, but I wanted to open up the debate.
Despite the germs (which linger, I’m sorry to say), I took Lilly on a little outing down into town last weekend. We went for a short walk. Lilly scaled rocks and walls. She even practiced a little shopping etiquette. Here is how it went.
Maybe I look like I’m holding my breath a lot, but people often remind me to BREATHE amid all the stress that continues unabated, going on 15 months now. I guess that’s why I noticed that Lilly and I got into bellows-like rhythm last week and pretended we were breathing relaxation into both of us.
Years after we tackled the Relaxation Protocol ourselves (both the one by Dr. Karen Overall and the one our own behaviorist prescribed), it remains one of the top reasons people come to Champion of My Heart. Pretty neat, huh? So, I decided to revisit a couple of the common questions I get about our Relaxation…
Thanks to Facebook, I’ve become friends with the Aunt of Lilly’s (former) best, best friend (Katie, the borzoi). It seems love of the “Bozos,” as they are affectionately called, runs in the family. With Thanksgiving on the horizon, Dana and her crew are headed to Colorado. We’re having dinner at Katie’s old house next Monday….
Lately, I wish I had one of those charging mats. You know, those things that you just lay your electronics upon and like magic they get charged back up. Maybe I could retool a scat mat. Well, that is, if I had the skill.
Sunday night while snuggling with Lilly, I found a big scab on her forehead, near the temple. Monday after our walk and again later in the day, Lilly reached up to kiss me, and when I hugged her back, she squealed in pain. Lilly never cries unless it really hurts. So, I worried.
Perhaps I’m prickly after 15+ months of seemingly endless worry and sadness. (There was another death in the family last week.) BUT, there are a few words used in dog circles or quasi dog circles that I’d be perfectly content never to hear/read again. All of them take root in dominance theory baloney:
The $500 donation is one of the biggest reasons I hoped to win the DogTime Media Best Dog Blog Award. It took some doing to work out the details, but I had the chance to celebrate the donation that YOU made possible last Friday. Thanks, again, for your votes!!
