FREE e-book "8 Things to Know About Veterinary Care"

December 13, 2007

Tom, my hubby and Lilly’s most excellent daddy, was voted 2007 firefighter of the year. Since he joined the fire department 5 years ago, he has won 3 big awards, including rookie of the year and firefighter of the year twice. I’m always proud of his hard work, but it’s especially nice when others recognize it too. It’s super-duper nice when other firefighters (yes, men) go out of their way to tell me how much they think of Tom.

So, three cheers for that darling boy I’m married to. I’m BEYOND lucky to have such a soulmate.

All the people who crash or get sick while visiting friends and family in our canyon, he’s a good guy to have on scene. And, when your house catches fire, he gets out of bed in the middle of the night to help.

It’s quite rare, due to the rural nature of our community and the rugged terrain (including private roads and driveways), for houses to be saved, if they catch fire, but this year Tom and other firefighters saved a house in the middle of the night when a fire started due to some remodeling.

He’d be completely flustered to know I’m writing about him. So … shhhh … don’t tell.

  1. Thanks. Sometimes, I think a lot of people take their efforts for granted. We have another fire board election coming up. The last one got really UGLY, where people did and said some awful things, including putting down the firefighters. I hope that doesn’t happen again. I was really upset for weeks last time.

  2. Huge congrats to Tom! Firefighters saved our whole neighborhood a few years ago when the nearby hills caught on fire. Their work is hugely appreciated by most Coloradoans.
