We had a three-day setback over the weekend with the ever-illusive Coming Inside Problem that only crops up in the summertime and only in the evening. As usual, I’m unable to peg what caused Lilly to decide once again that the house was SUPER scary, but it seems to be better. Even though, get this, Tom is currently in the basement using a small jackhammer-like thing.
Yep. He’s down there banging away. The compressor is running. It’s noisy as crap around here tonight, and Lilly was just laying outside the front door — happy as could be.
When I suggested it was perhaps time for dinner, she came right in with zero qualms.
I still think I’ll institute the no-going-outside-after-dinner rule (except to the dog pen to potty) for a few more days, but I’m feeling pretty good about this new .75 mg twice a day dose of the alprazolam, which is meant to specifically target her sound sensitivity.
I don’t want to jinx myself, but I’ve even been able to open the SCARY window over the kitchen sink several times recently without a fear-related incident.
Now … if I could only get rid of this hideous cold I managed to catch. My poor aching ears aren’t taking the noise as well as our brave canine protagonist.
And, shoot, since I’m germy, I guess we’re staying home from training class tomorrow. I am NOT one of those people who goes out in public when I’m sick. So, in the meantime, I’ll keep forcing the fluids, eating healthy stuff, and snuggling with the pups until this darn virus runs its course.
The noise progress sounds like a really big breakthrough. I remember all your posts about the scary window – so I know that’s a big accomplishment.
Hope that you kick the cold soon. I like that you don’t share your germs! We skipped class too. K reached a new low last night in terms of fearfulness so I figured class would simply be torture for her.
I’m glad to hear that her new dose of meds is helping – the scary window, even! Wow! But what a mystery, the not wanting to come in a night in the summer thing.
Sounds like you have another elusive dog training mystery to resolve. I’m sure you’ll figure it out. Hope you feel better soon.
Noise sensitivity can really be a bugger to calm down but you have the patience and love to do it. I can tell☺ On the other hand, gosh, a summer cold is a different animal, isn’t it? You might want to drop by our blog today. We’ve put up some tasty recipes for summer dog treats!
