FREE e-book "8 Things to Know About Veterinary Care"

October 28, 2008

I never really believed those experts who say it takes X amount of time for a new good habit to become routine, but considering my nearly absent momentum since Lilly’s snakebite nearly 2 months ago, I can affirm that taking a break of even a few weeks from a hard task I once took on with determination and discipline bled away my focus.

Surely, part of it is that I’ve been busy with work. Part of it is that I’m giving hours and hours each week to a presidential campaign for the first time in my life. But, the biggest part is that I still haven’t found a workable way to get access to people I need as training participants. And, I’m starting to doubt the outcome I seek is coming.

I’m feeling VERY stuck.

So, ye dog pals and purveyors of challenging tasks … any ideas on getting my training mojo back?

About the Author Roxanne Hawn

Trained as a traditional journalist and based in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, USA, I'm a full-time freelance writer for magazines, websites, and private clients. My areas of specialty include everything in the lifestyles arena, including health and home, personal finance and other consumer interests, relationships and trends, people and business profiles ... and, of course, all things pet related.

I don't just love dogs. I need them in my life. Seriously.

  1. There is one thing that always makes me want to train….and that is seeing another dog that is trained who is doing their job. Today we shot a commercial in Evergreen with a friend’s lab. He was wonderful! Makes me want to jump in with my own kids. Take a half day and go to a dog event sans doggie. A day trip like that is inspiring!

That said, I am a big believer in training vacations. That’s not a vacation to go to camp to train but a true ‘toss all training to the wind’ and just enjoy the dogs for what they are.
