Too tired and hungry to tell the whole story behind this book cover choice, but here is the cover of my 1st book, which is coming soon. Let’s just say it was NOT an easy decision to pick a design from 2 options, but I’m in love with this design and the photo inspiration that I came up with while snuggling with Clover and sobbing one night … (Long story).

That’s Lilly’s actual collar, with a new heart tag. I took the new photo on Lilly’s fav hiking trail — same trail that famous photo of her was taken (different spot). Clover went with me, so that I would NOT be alone on the trek. Not easy being art director, photographer, and puppy wrangler all at the same time.

About the Author Roxanne Hawn

Trained as a traditional journalist and based in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, USA, I'm a full-time freelance writer for magazines, websites, and private clients. My areas of specialty include everything in the lifestyles arena, including health and home, personal finance and other consumer interests, relationships and trends, people and business profiles ... and, of course, all things pet related.

I don't just love dogs. I need them in my life. Seriously.

  1. I just found your blog! Probably the first one I can really relate to. I have 5 handicapped cats and 1 dog. I love your puppies new collar and I also look forward to reading your book as well as future posts! Great job!

  2. That’s such a lovely cover. I grew up with dogs and over my years I’ve outlived 3 of my beloved doggies. I wish I could say it gets easier each time. The one thing that always put a smile to my face though is that I know they had a good and happy life.

  3. The cover is perfect; I’m so happy you are moving ahead with this important project. Can’t wait to read it!

  4. Oh, I love it. And it makes me get teary thinking of my Abby and her collar.

(I’ve been teary about her a lot lately! My book about her is getting republished and they’re re-doing the cover, so I’ve been going through all my pics of her trying to find one they can use. Fingers crossed they’ll be able to use one of her. I’ll be pretty heart-broken if she’s not on the cover of the new book… Anyway, I haven’t seen any concepts or anything yet. Hopefully they’ll send me something soon.)

When is the book coming out?

    1. Thanks SO much, Jackie. I know it’s hard when reminders of Abby’s loss crop up. Best wishes with your new book cover. XO

Oh, and we don’t have a final pub date yet. The book is still in editing. Once I make my final revisions and it goes into design, then I’ll have a better idea on a date. Right now, I’m debating whether (or not) to do a pre-order period in advance of publication. So many people are anxious to get the book, I hate to make them wait.

  5. I Love it Roxanne and I lost my beautiful Daisey who was a most wonderful friend and Border Collie 8th December 2013. I have tears seeing this. It’s absolutely beautiful <3

  6. What a perfect cover! It brought tears to my eyes because I remember leaving the vet clinic with little else besides my baby’s collar. This one photograph speaks volumes, and everyone who has ever lost a dog will hear the message.

  7. I LOVE it! And knowing what it means makes me want to cry. Great job Roxanne. Beautiful!
