Early on I dragged Tom with me to an agility trail, and I kid you NOT … one of the first things he said was “Those women need a good bra.” It’s not that he is obsessed with boobage. One look at me proves that, but I believe he is quite correct. Many of us could use a really good bra for agility or just for running around with our dogs.
I actually pitched this bra selection idea to Clean Run a few years ago, to no avail. SO, I’m giving you a shorter, faster version here.
Recently, some pals turned me onto this great website that helps you pick out jeans and bras based on problems you have finding good fitting ones now. It’s called ZAFU. I think it’s a really good place to start in your quest.
If that doesn’t help, then I strongly suggest getting a fitting by one of Nordstom’s bra fitting experts. Seriously, these women are geniuses, and they often pick out bras you would NEVER pick out on your own, but that work really, really well for your body type.
The one they picked out for me is made by Donna Karan and comes from an active wear line. It’s model #31560, and I LOVE it. I wouldn’t say it’s perfect for full-out running, but it’s a great everyday, running around piece. It’s known as the “inside-out” bra because it looks like you’re wearing it wrong.
Here’s a photo I found online.
There is also the legendary “Oprah Bra.” I don’t know anyone who has one, but if they live up to even 50% of the hype, then they also might be worth checking out.
You can always resort to the old style smash-em-down sports bras, but if you trial a lot, that could get really uncomfortable.
Don’t be dismissive of the importance of wearing the right bra. A preliminary study was undertaken by two hospitals and a BUPA consultant surgeon and it showed that 76% of women referred to the consultant with breast pain found that proper fitting alleviated their symptoms! No surgical intervention or other treatment was required.
A good bra is a must have for women. It does not only make you look good but you will feel good too.
Whew – someone else noticed!!!! Several friends and I comment at nearly every show that a bra concession at the trials would be a plus. ….. and now that you mention it, I might visit Nordstrum’s Boob Ladies myself!
Hmm.. I can’t say that I’ve ever spent a lot of time, effort, or money picking out a good sports bra. As a friend of mine once said, “if you didn’t have feet, would you wear shoes?” I’ll have to chekc out ZAFU, though – I always have trouble finding jeans that aren’t way too long for me.
Title 9 is a great place for sports/running bras. I wear them all day at trials and don’t have a problem with comfort but that’s just me.
