Over the weekend, I learned two things about people and dogs I love — one happy, one sad.
First the good news, my friend and trainer Joy Bishop (who has been on the World Agility Team with her sheltie Keen) announced the birth of a litter of dark sable pups from Keen and a sweetie-girl named Dash. I think it’s at least Keen’s third breeding, but it’s the first time Joy will raise the pups, and she’s VERY excited. In her note to friends, Joy said it took about 3 hours for the 4 boys and 3 girls to arrive. All are fine. (If I get photos, I’ll be sure to share.)
On the sad side, I’m sorry to report the passing of Ben, a chocolate lab who lived with our neighbors Pat and Bear for many years. Ben was an excellent dog without need for fences. He just hung around the house, sometimes sneaking over to the fire house next door to visit. He trotted out to the street to escort his family whenever they came home, but he never bothered anyone who walked by.
So, today, I’ll simply say that if you have an older dog, give him an extra hug. And, if you too have a youngster, a new addition to your pack, enjoy this early time that cannot be replicated or replaced.
