FREE e-book "8 Things to Know About Veterinary Care"

February 5, 2008

Recently, my county dog license renewal forms arrived in the mail. Much to my surprise the fees went up — WAY up. I kid you not. It now costs more to license my dogs than it does to register my car each year. I’m pretty sure my dogs have less of an impact on the county than my car.

Last year, I paid $7 each to license each of my altered dogs. So, $14 total. I prove their rabies vaccinations remain valid. They send me a new tag.

(If you’re wondering, people with intact pets in our county pay double.)

Well, to save money and hassle, the county went to nice stainless steel tags last year. So, unless your tag is unreadable, you don’t need a new one.

So, the new system is less of a pain for the county, but it costs me more? Whaa?

Altered dogs now cost $15 each to register each year. So, $30 total. Just to make sure I’m not loopy, I checked what I paid last year. I checked what I pay for my car, and yep … it’s less for my car than my dogs.

Granted, I drive a car from 1994, but still.
