Managed to sleep from 11 pm to 3 am, despite worry. Just called to check on Lilly. She is tolerating treatment pretty well, poor baby. Not a single seizure yet. Her latest electrolyte check shows that her sodium dropped from 157 to 154 (very much in normal range), which is good.
Yes, that’s the headline. Paintball poisons dog. I’m too tired and worried to explain everything, but Lilly is at the ER/ICU animal hospital getting treatment for paintball poisoning. She got into a bag of paintballs in the basement. We’re still trying to figure out how many she ate, but it was a LOT. Much vomiting ensued. Natural and induced.
Lately, I wish I had one of those charging mats. You know, those things that you just lay your electronics upon and like magic they get charged back up. Maybe I could retool a scat mat. Well, that is, if I had the skill.
Sunday night while snuggling with Lilly, I found a big scab on her forehead, near the temple. Monday after our walk and again later in the day, Lilly reached up to kiss me, and when I hugged her back, she squealed in pain. Lilly never cries unless it really hurts. So, I worried.
At first, we blamed Ginko’s early-morning wake-up calls on knee pain. Then, we had that whole excessive thirst and urination thing going on. Now, we’re not sure if he’s just hungry on the new turkey/sweet potato food or merely a pain in the neck. So, we’ve been experimenting with some things, and for now … it seems to be working.
We ask our dogs to LEAVE IT all the time. It’s a handy dog training cue that essentially means “Let it Go.” Ignore that food on the ground. Stop fixating on that squirrel in the tree. Don’t snark at that other dog. Yes, I know he’s being rude, but keep on walking. We ask, and if we’ve done all the groundwork, our dogs often comply. They let it go. They move on.
A while back I delivered a full-on rant about the (insert strongly-worded editorial comment here) FedEx guy. So, what’s a girl to do when one of many UPS guys feeds barking dogs treats?
Do not worry. Everyone at our house is fine, but we are devastated to report the loss of one of our dear, sweet Great Dane friends, Belle, whose tummy twisted last week. She was only 6. RIP, darling Belle.

I must have jinxed myself by declining the new dog tag and nagging about how important I think collars/tags are because last Wednesday, Lilly’s went missing. Seriously. Vanished. No idea where it went.
