FREE e-book "8 Things to Know About Veterinary Care"

September 5, 2008

This week was all about Lilly getting her strength back, following the rattlesnake bite Saturday. I asked nothing of her. The good news is that she doesn’t seem to have carried any hospitalization anxiety home. She has not seemed fearful or upset all week. Granted, she clearly doesn’t feel well, but she doesn’t seem freaked out or anything. Then, again, I did not challenge her with any noises or actions a la our behavior modification plan. I do wonder, however, if me breaking some of the rules might mess things up.

For example, since I’m so worried about her, I’m SURE that I’ve given her attention when she sought it. I’d been getting up and leaving the room for weeks now, when she tried to poke at me and get my attention. BUT, when your girlie-girl doesn’t feel well, and she slides like a warm, sweet eel into your lap for some Mommy Loving, I think you have to smooch on her. So, I did.

I also broke the rule about Lilly not being allowed outside after dinner, which was aimed at preventing battles over coming inside. She’s been very good about coming in, so my fingers are crossed that I didn’t break our streak or anything.

Last night, in fact, I brought her big round bed outside. It’s green and known as her Lilly Pad. Since the fire ban has been taken down now that cooler/cold weather is back, we lit a fire in our patio fire thing. So, Lilly and I snuggled on the Lilly Pad near the fire … after I roasted a few marshmallows, of course.

On a medical note, I’ll add that I found two poke-hole/bumps,one on each side of Lilly’s ribcage. I’ve been keeping them clean, but I’ll keep an eye on them. I don’t think they are related to the snake bite. I fear, though, that she has more of those awful fly bites. My hope is that the antibiotics she’s already on will handle it, but we’ll see how they look in a couple days … another trip to the vet, anyone?

It’s cold and rainy today. Only in the 30s this morning. Summer is surely over up here on the mountain.

I believe Lilly is curled up in our bed sleeping right now. Ginko is sacked out on the sofa.  And, me?

Well, as much as I’d love to crawl back in bed with my snuggle pup … I have three big deadlines looming next week. I’d best get to work.

Have a good weekend!

  1. Oh my, I’m so happy Lily is on the mend. -hugs- Poor girl. I’m glad she’s feeling better. Good luck with your work.

  2. So glad Lilly is continuing to mend. As for the interruption in her training, I’m sure it will set you both back a bit, but it’s probably like what happens anytime a young child has the flu or the chicken pox or some such–it’s normal to expect some regression and a bit of backsliding as you relax the rules during the illness. Be patient with Lilly–and yourself, too.
