I did a silly thing, but I could not help myself. I bought a fancy-ass leather collar and matching leather leash for Lilly. So much of what’s out there bores me, but this line of high-end stuff really caught my eye at that pet expo over the weekend.
I’ll have to get nice ID tag made for it since I’m a firm believer in tags (even with microchips) since most people who find dogs don’t have a chip scanner on them. I’d rather someone just find my phone number and call should Lilly ever get loose. I like to think that won’t ever happen, but Lilly does have a STRONG flee instinct when she freaks out, so you never know.
So far, it’s serving as a work of art in my office. It’s pretty … yes?
It’s also entirely impractical. We joke all the time about Lilly NOT being a sissified city girl. She’s a rough and tumble mountain girl. She scales steep inclines. She swims in ponds, splashes through creeks. OK … she does eat at some restaurants (occasionally off a fork), but she also regularly snacks on all manner of poop she finds in the pasture.
She’s not a purse dog. She’s not an accessory. She’s not a wing-pup. But, I still had to buy her this collar.
It’s only the second one she’s ever had. I liked the one someone gave her before we adopted her. It’s gray and purple and blue, with a geometric pattern. It’s held up to nearly 4 years of sun and wind and snow and swimming. And, it looks very much like something a mountain dog in CO would wear. It also washes up well.
So, why did I fall for the fancy one?
Maybe because so much of what’s out there looks cheap or home-made.
I don’t know.
I figure we’ll give it a try or only use it for our more demure activities. (You can stop laughing now. Or maybe we should start a pool on how long it will take Lilly to ruin it.)
Because I’m evil, I’ll tempt you with the offerings. Check out Trendy K9. For small dogs, I’m particularly fond of the ones that look like little dress shirt collars. But, they also have coats and sweaters and such that are really pretty.
