Real-World Dog Drama
On Monday, Lilly went for her wellness exam. Lilly is fine (as far as I know right now), but the real-life dramas that played out in the lobby and general environs bruised my empathetic heart.

I’m WAY behind on blog visits and comments because I spent three days earlier this week on the road with a client. I know. It’s shocking. I not only left the house in grown-up clothes, but I got on a plane (several actually) and went away again. Here is what I’ve learned about the pups based on this absence and the BlogPaws one last month.
Last week over on my Dog Food Dish blog, I wrote about the unique needs of large-breed puppies when it comes to feeding and puppy food formulas. The veterinary nutritionist I interviewed said that he considers any dog 55 pound or more (as an adult) a large-breed dog. That knocked my socks off.
Other than a brief stint in Arizona around age 5, right before my parents divorced, I’ve lived in Colorado. The cold? I’m used to it (mostly). And, yet, this winter loomed particularly chilly and simply will not quit. So, seriously, Spring? You coming any time soon?
Despite temps in the 30s and a brisk wind, we indeed had our Katie and Lilly reunion and Borzoi-Palooza last Sunday. It was terrific to see our Katie Girl. They both seemed happy to see each other, but they didn’t really play at all.
A dilemma, I have. One of my favorite dog product companies (Premier Pet Products) recently became a subsidiary of a company (Radio Systems Corporation) that makes shock collars (PetSafe, Innotek, etc) and other products that astound me (not in a good way), like the wireless crate. [Perhaps you remember my earlier rant on that atrocious idea.]
Lilly and Ginko have their annual veterinary exams later this month. And, one thing I desperately need solved is the problem with using an online pharmacy. Trust me, I know that the veterinary profession shuns such outlets, but even conscientious dog mom’s like me get driven to the brink.
While I was off dealing with the latest family medical thing last week (it’s a doozy, send mojo), Ginko licked the inside of his right knee raw. It’s a spot near one of the screws from his major knee surgery years ago. There is a big, hard bump. It’s been there ages, but it must have hurt or something for him to create a big, icky sore. So, he is wearing his BiteNot collar until it heals.
Lilly and I began our much-overdue 100% togetherness day on Sunday with a visit to Mom’s place (the assisted living facility). Lilly showed improvement in some areas, but … alas … one pretty “scary” thing happened.
Now that it’s finally feeling at least a little like spring, I’ve noticed one funny thing about visual/auditory cues that get Lilly and Ginko a’ running. The big, brown UPS truck.
