A couple days ago, Tom shot some video of
Lilly running her home agility course. (Last week, it took 3 tries to get this to work. The solution was to post the videos to YouTube and link to them there. So, to simplify, I’m re-posting this and
deleting all my mistakes.) …
Sometimes Ginko does it to Lilly. He’ll just walk up and start nibbling on her like an ear of corn, tiny bites in a row on her neck or shoulder or side. She seems to like it. Often, if
she’s just been bossy to him, then she’ll race up and lick him like crazy, but she rarely nibbles on him. She also doesn’t nibble on Tom, but I think it’s because when she tried early on, he yelled
“ouch.” And, then there’s me. Lilly likes to nibble on my head. And, I have no idea why. …
Lilly and I had an interesting week. She did not snark at anyone or anything, but she did shut down a couple times in training. She also had one very scary encounter and responded
beautifully. Here’s what happened. …
Here’s an update on my pal Don’s new border collie puppy, Indy. This week, she’s 6 months old. And … man, is she cute. …
We do not have class the last weekend of the month, so no formal training venue updates to report. However, as I mentioned earlier in the week, Lilly and I took a few adventures into
public settings instead, and we have a new training challenge at home … mules. …
We’ve all seen people do it. And, let’s be honest … We’ve all done it. Repeat commands, hoping it’ll work. Generally, it just erodes the word’s power. So much so that Patricia McConnell included a section subhead in one of the chapters of her books called something like … “Don’t repeat commands. Don’t repeat commands. Don’t repeat commands.” That still cracks me up. But, it is important to know what words we use with our dogs and what we expect them to mean. Enter the Command Log.
The divorce rate and existence of on-again/off-again relationships says a lot about our collective intolerance of flaws in those we try to love. People like to talk about unconditional
love with pets, but I sometimes wonder just how unconditionally we return the favor. …
I got another photo of Dash and Keen’s pups. Here, they are 6 weeks old. All 7 are doing well. …
Since when is every public place a zoom zone for kids? Not to date myself, but back in my day we played in our neighborhood, and outings to malls, farmer’s markets and the like were
something altogether different. My mom would have never allowed errands to be playtime. Clearly, I notice it more because Lilly reacts to fast-moving objects, but it seems like everywhere we go there
are kids zooming by on skateboards, scooters and those wheelie shoes. It’s enough to put an anxious dog over the edge. …
Lilly had another nearly perfect week. Does that mean the meds are helping? I’d like to hope so. Here are the details. …
