Despite snow (about 4 inches since we woke up), it’s sort of starting to feel like spring around here. From photos taken earlier this week, here’s proof. Or at least what masquerades as proof when you live in a high, dry climate.
Indeed! I have 2 purple crocus blooming. There are 2 yellow ones in another spot too. Bulb season is finally underway here at about 8,000 feet above sea level in the Rocky Mountains.
You can see a few tulips coming up too, but no blossoms yet. We kept and planted the tulips from our wedding center pieces, and they still come up … after all these years. They’re getting smaller each year, but still.
I got a bit optimistic about the greenhouse, though. My tomato plants lasted 2 days. But, the one pepper plant I bought on Friday and the newly transplanted rhubarb from my in-laws are doing well so far, and I have some arugula coming up. This is my first full growing season with the green house, so we’ll see how much produce I can grow.
If you’re wondering, the black thing beyond the greenhouse is our dog pen. We sewed that tennis court mesh on to the chain link so that it looks a tiny bit more stylish than a typical dog run. We never leave the dogs out in the pen, but if we did, the mesh also provides some shade.
I hope to get the rest of my seeds into my new two-story beds that Tom built this weekend and into various pots soon. I’ll wait another couple weeks and try again with the tomato plants.
