FREE e-book "8 Things to Know About Veterinary Care"

June 15, 2012

Sadie, an 8-year-old border collie / blue heeler mix, died Friday, June 8, 2012, from injuries sustained during a home burglary. The intruder / would-be thief injured Sadie so badly that she had to be euthanized. Her family — Kori and Randy Clark of Billings, Montana — seek information about the crime. We offered by phone this morning to help them raise funds for the reward. Details below, including information way at the bottom about how to contact local officials to ask them to help the Clarks see this case through to its rightful conclusion.

*** UPDATE June 28, 2012 ***

The reward fund is up to $10,000. Still no arrests.

***

The family is already offering a $1,000 reward for information, but we’d like to get that number up, Up, UP to motivate the people who know something to speak up!

If you’d like to contribute to the reward being offered for information leading to the identification / arrest / conviction of the suspect, here is what the family has asked:

  • Make checks payable to Kori Clark or Randy Clark.
  • Send checks by postal mail to 2033 Colton Blvd, Billings, MT 59102.
  • Please include your name and mailing address so that the family can send thank you notes and updates about the case.

Should the reward NOT be used, if the case doesn’t proceed, then the Clarks will donate the money collected to the local animal shelter in Billings, Montana.

(Saturday, June 16 UPDATE)

There is a new way to add money to the reward fund online with a credit card ($5 minimum).

Any and All Information About the Burglary or Suspect(s) Sought

Please share this with anyone you know who lives anywhere near Billings, Montana. Perhaps someone saw something, heard something the day of or even after the crime, including someone with new injuries that look like dog bites or scratches.

Anyone with information can contact:

  • The Clark family at 406-598-7829
  • Crimestoppers at 406-245-6660
  • Billings police detectives at 406- 657-8473

Details on the Crime Itself

The Clarks and police believe the crime happened between 1:15 pm – 2:15 pm Friday, June 8, 2012. The suspect(s) used a dog door to enter into an enclosed former patio that the Clarks joke is a combination home “sports bar” and “Sadie’s big dog house.”

We can only assume that Sadie defended herself and her home. We can only HOPE that she landed a few good bites or scratches in the process because her injuries included:

  • Bloody left paws
  • Broken toenails
  • Torn diaphragm
  • Ruptured liver
  • Broken sternum

We’re no experts, but that sure sounds like the suspect(s) kicked her hard and repeatedly. It breaks the family’s hearts and ours.

Randy came home from work early Friday. The family and police believe the sound of his diesel truck pulling up to the house scared off the suspect(s) before they could do more than fatally injure Sadie and tear the one room to pieces.

All Hail Sadie

So, join us in adding money to the reward fund and in spreading this news far and wide via social media so that Sadie’s killer can be brought to justice.

She was 8 years old and the family’s only dog. The Clarks brought her home when she was just 5 weeks old. They loved her every day of her life and will continue to love her now that she has crossed over.

All of us at Champion of My Heart are so sorry for their loss.

Another Miracle, Please

Those in the dog community who are active on social media know that we’ve already seen one miracle this week when Elicia Calhoun was reunited with her border collie Tobie, after that terrible, terrible car crash in Arizona that killed two of her other dogs and injured the rest.

Let’s see if we can make something good happen for the Clarks as well.

Thank you!

Trained as a traditional journalist and based in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, USA, I'm a full-time freelance writer for magazines, websites, and private clients. My areas of specialty include everything in the lifestyles arena, including health and home, personal finance and other consumer interests, relationships and trends, people and business profiles ... and, of course, all things pet related.

I don't just love dogs. I need them in my life. Seriously.

  1. Sometimes I look at my Lab, Alie, and realize that her death would literally take a very unique personality out of the world. And if somebody hurt her, I’d probably be dangerous.

My heart goes out to these folks. I’m sorry they lost their friend.

  2. Thank you for sharing this sad story so that those of us who care can help! I will send letters to the P.D. and D.A., and a donation to the reward fund. Somebody knows the jerk who did this because sick-os actually “brag” about their pathetic crimes. So, if we can get the donation pot large enough to make someone talk, Sadie and her family may get their justice.

    1. I agree, Sharon. Tom thinks it was a “kid,” but if so, even more reason to get this person off the street because stuff like this that starts young only gets worse.
