I’ve written before about this new, special, psycho-acoustic music for dogs from Through a Dog’s Ear. We find it VERY helpful in our amped up canine household, so I’m happy to report that there is a second CD out in the Music to Calm Your Canine Companion series.
We’re very attached to Volume 1, which we often put on repeat and listen to throughout the day.
It features a bunch of Chopin, some Rachmaninoff, Schumann, Mozart, Schubert, and Beethoven.
Still … it’s nice to have some new music to add to our always-on need for calm around here so that the same pieces only come around every couple of hours instead of every hour.
Volume 2 includes 11 tracks and a total of 61 minutes and 28 seconds of specially-formatted classical music. The new CD features more Chopin, along with Chaminade, Schumann, Debussy, Haydn, Mozart, Moussorgsky, and Beethoven. The track entitled “Foreign Lands and People” seems terribly appropriate for Lilly’s situation.
We also have the CD called Music for the Canine Household, which offers slightly more complex arrangements that did not prove to have calming effects per se in testing, but in general dogs like classical music, so it’s just good background music in the house if you need it.
Personally, I don’t like this other CD as well, but I think it’s because I’ve gotten so used to the lull of the very simple pieces that these feel too complicated even for me.
That’s nice to hear. Thanks!
Quick anecdote: I have a friend who does canine massage and had been using a tape of some oriental music, like you might hear in a day spa for relaxing humans. A while back, she mentioned to me that she had a few canine clients that actually seemed bothered by the music rather than relaxed by it. I remembered your earlier post, and sent her the links. She ended up buying the CD, and her first impression was that they did work better than the music she had been using.
