As promised, some agility humor for our dog training friends who already have earned or aspire to earn a Master Agility Champion title (MACH) with their dogs. Meet Chaos, a nationally ranked Labrador Retriever who TWICE had to earn her 20th and final double-Q to get her MACH #5. All this … at the age of 10.
You see, Chaos and the other labs in my friend JoAnn McDermott’s family are pretty fast, so getting the “speed / placement” points for a MACH is pretty easy for them. It’s the 20 QQs that sometimes pose a challenge.
And, as Chaos proved the first time she got that QQ, things can still go wrong AFTER your official agility run is over.
That QQ became a DQ really quickly.
Lesson? Beware the agility victory lap I coveted for so many years … before giving up on our agility dream.
Until your dog leaves the agility ring, the run still isn’t officially over. Clearly, with more than one MACH dog in her life, JoAnn isn’t a green handler. This just proves dogs will be dogs.
So, a couple of weeks later, Chaos and JoAnn had to do it all over again … since the first one became known as Chaos’ mock MACH5.
Chaos will now go into semi-retirement in the Preferred Class (jumping 16 inches instead of 20) so that JoAnn can focus her attention on her other 2 labs … who just happen to be Chaos’ puppies from her one and only litter years ago. [I recently learned, though, that dogs in Preferred can still earn an agility title like a MACH, called a PACH.]

JoAnn kept 2 pups from that litter (seen above, along with Chaos and Jasmine, the Australian shepherd):
- Bosco (a boy)
- Hotty (a girl)
Well, Bosco became a daddy dog the day after Thanksgiving. So, if you’re needing a SQUEEEE Break this holiday season, you’ll want to check out the live puppy webcam of Wrigley (Bosco’s girlfriend) being an awesome, awesome dog mom to:
- 7 total pups
- 4 yellow ones (1 boy, 3 girls)
- 3 black ones (1 boy, 2 girls)
They were born in Vail, Colorado, November 25, 2011.
If you know of anyone looking for a good Lab puppy with strong agility or field work prospects, these little stinkers might be just what the dog trainer ordered.
Thanks for the laugh. And I’m glad JoAnn had a sense of humor too. I loved the message on the back of her t-shirt on the second attempt.
