Sharing a lifetime of photos and video of Lilly, our dearly departed canine heroine. Approximately 5-minute tribute video for my Heart Dog — my canine soul mate — Lilly Elizabeth Hawn.
Today, Lilly Elizabeth Hawn earned the angel’s wings we always knew she had. She was my Heart Dog – my canine soul mate. Gone from this life, she lives forever in my heart. Goodbye, beautiful girl. Thank you for everything.
This hasn’t been our best week at Chez Champion of My Heart. Lengthy nosebleeds. Sudden allergic reaction. BUT, we also got some good news after Lilly’s recheck date with our veterinary internal medicine and veterinary radiology team.
Lilly’s case is getting increasingly complicated. Every decision we make in consultation with our growing team of veterinary specialists has consequences. Each time we prioritize medical concerns, each time we add / increase / remove a medication, each time we choose to take action (or not), things — foreseen and unforeseen — result. It’s a true feat to pay attention to the small details and the big picture at the same time. It’s an even greater feat not to awake each day in a state of utter dread (assuming anyone here slept at all).
Before Thanksgiving gobbles up all our time and energy, here is the news from both Ginko’s and Lilly’s recheck appointments this week. Warning! Cute pictures below.
Remember BB, Lilly’s magic comfort bear a friend sent us a while back? Well, there’s a new bear on the case. She is small enough to fit in a pocket, and the story of her name never fails to make me giggle.
We spend a lot of time on the floor with Lilly. Likely for a variety of reasons, she often is not comfortable on softer surfaces. She chooses to hunker down on the hard floor. Great for her, I suppose, if she is comfortable, not so great for us. My search for something to cushion my own bod resulted in this brief, high praise of memory foam bath mats.
Coming at us like fastballs aimed at our heads, Lilly’s medical problems continue to mount. On top of last week’s out-of-the-blue blood clot in her right rear leg, we’ve been dealing with more bleeding (due to blood thinners) and, believe it or not TWO not-good things brewing in her lower lip.
Another day. Another run to the veterinary ER. As one of three veterinary emergency and critical care specialists on Team Lilly likes to say, “Lilly doesn’t read textbooks.” The news we got yesterday (Tuesday, October 29) wasn’t good, but it also wasn’t the worst thing they could have told us. It all started Monday night, when Lilly somewhat suddenly lost the use of her right rear leg.
