We’re still waiting for our handy “Blue Book” for this year’s election. Do they have those where you live? I assume so. If not, I’m not talking about the book that lists current car values. Around here the “Blue Book” is a booklet that lists all the ballot measures, along with a pro-statement and a con-statement, since the actual legalese is impossible to understand for most people. I believe there are more than a dozen such measures on the 2008 ballot here in Colorado. Whew! While I ponder such things, I began wishing there was a “Blue Book” for dog topics.
Don’t you think it would help new pet owners quickly and easily see both sides of various issues?
Topics might include:
- Spay/neuter (not just if, but when)
- Ear cropping/tail docking
- Vaccinations (what and how often)
- Kibble vs raw vs home-cooked foods
- Types of collars
- Training methods
Those of us steeped in the history, the fact, and the lore often assume that everyone knows the ins and outs of such decisions … and how they might change based on the dog. But, the truth is a lot of people don’t know the point-counterpoint on such issues.
