It’s been a tough week here, with my mom in cardiac ICU, after she blacked out, fell, hit her head, couldn’t stop throwing up and later in the ER went into V-tach (a scary and deadly heart rhythm) several times Tuesday. They had to zap her two seperate times to save her. So, I’ve been working as much as I can and running up and down the mountain to the hospital. It may take me a while to catch up with life, so don’t worry if we don’t post for a few days.
We got some good news from today’s tests (no new blockages or valve issues), so my mom is scheduled for surgery to put in a pacemaker + defibrillator combo thing on Monday to keep her heart doing the right thing electrically.
I’d say that should fix it, but we’ve faced falls and heart drama pretty much every 3-4 months since she had open-heart surgery about 2 1/2 years ago. She’s never been the same, and she’s only in her early 60s.
It’s been a long day. Just waiting for dinner to cook, then it’s time for good food and dog kisses.
BTW — The cardiologist came in the waiting room to talk to us as I was showing my sister some of Lilly’s videos. He made fun of me, asking, “And that’s interesting why?”
Considering my mom nearly died and could die if she goes into V-tach again without immediate help, I suspect he was trying to lighten the mood, but still … don’t make fun of a girl and her dog. Seriously.
Oh Rox, I’m so sorry…what a stressful series of events-how frightening! Thinking the best thoughts, and agreeing fully-NEVER make fun of a girl and her dog. Geez…does he live under a rock? That’s a no brainer!
Hoping for some good news soon!
Sue
Wow, so sorry to hear about your mom. Here’s hoping for a quick recovery.
Hang in there Roxanne. I have some idea what you’re going through. We’re in a similar crazed stressful phase with my mother-in-law in hospice care and likely within weeks of death (I haven’t been blogging about it at the request of my husband). It sounds like your mom is in much better situation – my fingers are crossed that the pacemaker does the trick, and she can get back to her life.
I’ve found that docs *never* understand my love of dogs. If they ask what I’m reading when they come into the exam room, they seem flummoxed by the fact that it’s a book about dogs. Maybe there’s trend here!
Thanks, everyone. I *am* working hard to eat well, to fit in workouts, to get enough sleep, etc.
And, yes, I’ll refrain from popping the doc in the nose, but I’ll still giggle about his surfer-dude hair and gripe about his cavalier M.O.
Susan, they did a CT scan of her brain right away, so we know she wasn’t bleeding on Tuesday night, which is a miracle considering the major blood thinners she is on.
We are a little concerned about diminished capacity because she does seem slow to respond at times, but that could be more from lack of blood circulation from the V-tach … or even the shocks they used.
It’s exhausting, either way.
Oh, Roxanne — how stressful for you and your mom. And having a humorless cardiologist makes things that much worse.
Because your mom hit her head, I hope she’s being monitored for signs of head injury: bad headaches, nausea, any loss of motor function, mental confusion, etc. You know why I’m mentioning this.
Wow, your mom and my sister seem to have a lot in common. I’ll say prayers for your mom and for you; hope the surgery goes really well!
As for the cardiologist with no sense of humor…wouldn’t want to have to spend my life with him! Don’t think he has a dog to love or he wouldn’t even have to ask about your videos..haha. I love them!
Take care of yourself while you are caring for your mom!
Wow, sounds like your mom and my sister have a lot in common! I will say prayers for your mom and for you! Hope the surgery helps her tremendously!
As for the cardiologist…let’s hope his sense of medical issues is better than his sense of humor! Obviously, HE doesn’t have a dog…or, if he does, I feel sorry for the dog, eh?
I love your videos!
I was wondering why you hadn’t posted a training update. Sorry to hear about your mom – hoping for a successful surgery Monday!
Oh my goodness! So sorry to hear about your mom – I hope that she is better soon, and that the pacemaker is the answer to her ongoing problems! Try not to punch the snarky cardiologist – you may need him!
