FREE e-book "8 Things to Know About Veterinary Care"

September 26, 2008

Sorry to say I don’t have much to report this week. My motivation lagged seriously as other worries loomed large. So, we did not get any Lilly work done this week, except to take morning walks and enjoy snuggling at night. It’s hard to say since I’m not challenging Lilly with the usual stimuli, but while we’ve been taking time off, I can say that she seems really, really happy. So, perhaps the drugs work well, when it comes to regular day-to-day stress. There is one thing, however, that I don’t think made any difference.

The dog appeasing pheromone (DAP) diffuser.

I’ve had it plugged in for a couple months now in my office, and I don’t see Lilly hanging out in the room more often. It’s NOT the room where she runs to hide when she feels like doing so. So, I unplugged it … it’s all part of my ongoing quest to lower our energy usage and bills.

While I try to regain my discipline to work through our behavior modification plan next week, I’m fighting the urge to jump ahead. Perhaps, I wonder, would I feel more motivated if we had something more interesting to work on?

We still need to work on Part 2 more around the house and on the road. THEN, we can work on being around strange people at home and on the road. THEN, we can work on dogs.

But, if I’m being honest, I’m dying to get Lilly back into classes — despite the expense and driving involved.

Sadly, that’s not an option for quite some time.

I will not jump ahead and jeopardize our progress. I won’t. I won’t. I won’t.

  1. It sounds like you and Lily have had your share of stress for a while and just need some down time. She sounds happy and relaxed, and that can’t be bad. One day soon you’ll know it’s time to start up again and maybe that will bring some inspiration about new things to try. In the meantime, maybe you could think of yourselves as being on semester break.
