I’m beginning to think that all this dog training is warping my expectations about how people should behave. When I cue Lilly, I expect that it be done right away. If not, I shrug, give her the “Well?” face and wait. Generally, she complies within about 15 seconds. Other people? Not so much.

I’m a pretty independent gal. I don’t often ask for help, make demands, etc. But lately, I find myself annoyed with people both on the job and at home, when they don’t respond right away with action, an answer, whatever.

Remember that I work in a deadline-soaked world. Pretty much every day, editors, clients, and others ask me (nay, expect me) to do something RIGHT NOW, which often entails a form of magic requiring me to pull one thing or another from nothingness out of my  … let’s say … ear.

I guess between my own jump-to-it-ness and Lilly’s overall responsiveness I’m starting to think everyone should hop to it when I ask.

Not fair I know.

I’m expecting people to act like a Border Collie.
