November 20, 2008

I first wrote about fellow writer Lori Hall Steele in September. I’m sad to report she died yesterday, November 19, 2008, from ALS, something similar or perhaps Lyme Disease. It is a tremendous loss for her family and friends and for this profession I love so much. Please keep her loved ones in your heart during this difficult time.

If this made you get misty, I recommend reading this essay Lori wrote about her young son’s first thoughts on death and having a good cry. Sometimes that’s exactly what we need on days like today.

Here also is a link to Lori’s obit, from her hometown newspaper.

About the Author Roxanne Hawn

Trained as a traditional journalist and based in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, USA, I'm a full-time freelance writer for magazines, websites, and private clients. My areas of specialty include everything in the lifestyles arena, including health and home, personal finance and other consumer interests, relationships and trends, people and business profiles ... and, of course, all things pet related.

I don't just love dogs. I need them in my life. Seriously.

  1. Sherri,

I emailed you privately, but I’m posting here too in case anyone else is interested. One of Lori’s close friends just sent this information:

There will be a visitation at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home [www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com] Monday (11/24) from 5-8p. The funeral will will be Tuesday (11/25)  morning at 11 am at the Baypoint Community Church [http://www.bponline.org]
in Traverse City. I saw a couple of posts asking about memorials. An
account has been set up in Lori’s son’s name (Jackson Gabriel Steele)
at Northwestern Bank [http://www.nwbank.com] in Traverse City. (There’s a branch on Union St, that’s the best one to use)
