An alert Lilly is very pointy. A sleepy Lilly is quite round. But, reading her body language — in this case, her noggin — isn’t always this simple.

You see, she also drops her ears down and back if she’s afraid or very, very relaxed. Yet, sometimes, when she’s happy, Lilly’s ears can remain pretty upright. The shift between a neutral ear position and a riled up one is likely as small as a half an inch. The only thing I know for sure is that her ears move distinctly forward if she’s gearing up to snark. Maybe that’s what matters most.

I have not read the Calming Signals book or seen the DVD, so maybe someone who has can comment. Can you read a dog’s head in 5 or 10 easy steps? Maybe a round head isn’t necessarily a sign of worry?
