I know that nearly everywhere else this weekend marks the beginning of summer, but around here, it’s just barely starting to feel like spring. Here are some flower shots I took this week. Enjoy!

These tiny columbines grow on our hill to the West of the house. They are a fraction of the size of fancier ones people grow in their gardens.

Here is the one daffodil in my flower beds that has bloomed so far. It finally bloomed on May 18.

This is a small ponderosa pine tree. The first summer at this house, we bough 100 tiny seedlings from the local 4-H club for like $1 each. That was summer 2002. Of those 100 trees, only 3 have survived the recent droughts. It’s still not very big, but it’s hanging in there.

And, well, this is cheating because our one lilac bush has barely leafed out yet. It has a ton of flower bud clusters, and if all goes well, we might see blooms by Independence Day, so these come from my mother-in-law’s prolific lilac bushes from her house down in town.

And, as for wildlife, we’ve spotted the bull snake that lives in our bridge. It kind of freaked me out when I saw him (after last summer’s rattlesnake scare), so I don’t have a photo of him to share.
