Despite threats of rain/snow, we took Lilly for a fairly long hike last Saturday. I moved slower than Lilly and Tom, after a week of intense weight-lifting workouts left my hamstrings screaming on the climbs. So, Lilly enjoyed more time with Tom … as I poked along behind them.
We saw a herd of deer. We heard an owl, but we could not find it in the trees. And, as I made my way up the final climb back to the parking lot, Tom and Lilly made friends with an open space volunteer. Lilly did not seem afraid of the woman or the horses being saddled nearby, so that’s nice.
Here is a little video clip I shot at the highest point on our climb.
So we weren’t the only ones doing outdoorsy things this week. Dogs just seem so “in their element” in natural surroundings. Lilly looks positively thrilled with hiking, based on your video.
Isn’t it funny which things our dogs fear and which things they don’t? Huge horses seem pretty darn scary to me – but not to Lilly or my dogs. The things that do scare them seem so little by comparison. It just strikes me as odd every now and then.
What a lovely area for hiking! And the video of Lilly is sweet…I think her face is just too cute!
I have the same trouble. Tom is so much taller than I am and can move so much faster. Sometimes I get discouraged because they get so far ahead and holler back things like, “C’mon, pokey Pete.” I keep a pretty good pace on my own, but together Tom and Lilly move much faster. Stinkers. Still, I love seeing her have a nice time with him too. So, I end up hollering back at him, “Tell her she’s a good girl,” because I can see her looking up at him, waiting for praise.
Whenever Mr. Geek comes along on hikes, I always have to throw a few jogging steps in every now and then to keep up – his stride is so much longer than mine, since he is over a foot taller than I am. Our neighbor with the goat farm always teases me when he sees us walking through the fields, as I cut corners and try to keep up!
