New Year’s Day hoopla bores me. All the hopes, all the resolutions, feel too much like a mate who acts like an @#$@# all year long and thinks flowers on Valentine’s Day or diamonds at Xmas makes up for it. I don’t buy it. But, it’s not that I don’t believe in new beginnings or new goals. I simply think that every day is a fresh start … for that matter so is every hour, every minute.
I once saw an interview with a TV star who had just had twins. When asked how she lost the baby weight, she replied, “One decision at a time.”
And, that made sense to me. Not just about food, but about most things in life — eating better, exercising more, saving more money, whatever.
Each moment can be a turning point. And, if you made a mistake in the last moment, let it go and give it another shot.
It’s like when Lilly and I train. When something doesn’t go quite right (notice I say when not if), I try very hard to smile, take a deep breath and say “Try again” in the most optimistic tone I can muster.
So, Happy Try Again Day, from a couple of girls who are not perfect (and never will be) but who try really hard this moment and the next (even when the wind chill is like 20 below).
Oh, good. I felt bad there for a sec.
Other than one quick phone interview tomorrow (postponed from today), I’m still “off” until Monday. I’m not sure how much relaxing I got in over the holiday, but it’s always good to take a break and recharge.
Oh I didn’t mean she was humoring you in a bad way. She just has that typical ‘Oh Mom’ look on her face.
No skiing for me for a while, I’m back to work.
Oh, no. You think so? That makes me sad.
Then again, it was seriously cold, with winds blowing right in our faces. I had to pick Lilly up to get the wreath in the shot, and Lilly HATES to be picked up. And, well, she’s still afraid of the camera, so as soon as you point it at her, everything changes.
Tom took more shots inside the house that same day. We think they turned out well enough that I’ve ordered big prints to frame. After all, what puppy mom doesn’t want a good portrait of her and her girl?
On another note, I hope you can get in that ski trip soon. It’s 37 here right now, but it’s cloudy and windy, so it feels colder than 14 degrees yesterday with sun and no wind. Brrr….
Great photos! Though Lilly looks like she’s humoring you.
I’m not big into resolutions either. I set goals and reevaluate training (or whatever) throughout the year at times when it makes sense to me.
We were up in Ned last night for a New Year’s Eve party and the wind/cold were horrible. Canceled ski plans yet again after seeing that winds were 20 mph and temps. in the teens up at Eldora. Brrr, no fun.
