Champion of My Heart Anthem – I Will Wait for You
Local radio has been playing the song “I will wait…” by Mumford & Sons a lot lately. It has become a sort of anthem for me and Lilly — whether you consider it a recovery song, decision song, or potentially a crossing-over song. Video and lyrics below. See what you think.
The official video from the musicians shows only the road racing by, which is an interesting artistic choice. Still … let’s hope the loss of Lilly is WAY down this strange road we now walk together.
The song certainly has religious undertones. However, I also think about it as a down-to-earth, well-grounded expression of love between me and Lilly — who is indeed my Heart Dog, my canine soul mate.
Perhaps these lines from the song are most suited to the treatment decisions we now face:

This isn’t the first time I’ve had a dog anthem song in my life. When we were losing our yellow lab Cody to hemangiosarcoma years ago, another song by Van Morrison was popular. Every time I hear it now, I think of my sweet, brown-nosed “Toad” as we jokingly called him.
