I’m not sure how she does it, but Lilly can get her tongue way up my nose or deep in my ear in a flash during any of her many kissing fits. Out of the blue, she feels the need to express her LOVE for me with a flurry of relentless kissing. I’m kind of a little person, so it’s not like my nose and ears are chasms, but she can still fire her tongue right in there. Ready? Aim. Bloop! Recently, while watching her intently play with a narrow Kong that I’d stuffed with peanut butter and slices of dog biscuit, I realized that my keep-her-busy-while-I-work strategy has inadvertently become a training ground for her wicked lip work.
She even squishes her nose to get more leverage. And, as we’ve discussed before, Tom swears she’s growing thumbs.
If you’re wondering, this particular Kong product came with a rope through the center hole. I simply cut the rope out. It’s just like the one Lilly’s trainer at the humane society gave us when we adopted her. I have the other kind of Kong too, with the big opening on one end, but even if you stuff and freeze them, it’s WAY too easy for Lilly and Ginko to get the food out.
So, if I need more than 10 minutes of peace, I use the tube shaped ones. The original one is torn now and falling apart from constant use.
The only drawback, which completely creeps Tom out, is that they sound like a couple of plumbers plunging toilets as they bloop their tongues to get the food out.
