It’s 48 days until Spring. We got a full tank of gas, half a pack of M&Ms. It’s dark… and we’re wearing sunglasses. Bonus points, if you get that movie reference (edited a little to match our situation). I’m in a mood after spending nearly $100 for one bag of dog food last weekend.
What. A. Week. Non-stop snow and wind and cold (and work deadlines). Then, Clover stopped eating. It happened once before during a lengthy false pregnancy. Don’t miss myths and facts about dogs who won’t eat from back then. This time, it turns out, the situation started with 1 or potentially a confluence of 3 things. Let’s take a look.
A couple of my veterinary pals actively work on 2 new pet food resources I want you to know about. The first is called Petfoodology (a blog written by board-certified veterinary nutritionists). The second is an online pet nutrition calculator created by the Pet Nutrition Alliance.
First, it was peaches. Then, we had to do a banana intervention. And, now … what kind of fruit and/or vegetable heist do you suppose resulted in Ginko making this “Who me?” face?
Other people might go on cleaning binges in the spring, but as we prepare for another long, cold winter around here, I cannot help but try to get our cupboards (especially the dog ones) in order.
At first, we blamed Ginko’s early-morning wake-up calls on knee pain. Then, we had that whole excessive thirst and urination thing going on. Now, we’re not sure if he’s just hungry on the new turkey/sweet potato food or merely a pain in the neck. So, we’ve been experimenting with some things, and for now … it seems to be working.
In the midst of Ginko’s post-op infection worries from last week, he also began drinking and peeing excessively. And, I mean off … the … charts. He would literally stand next to the empty water bowl and cry. He also began waking us up early because he had to go so badly and because he desperately needed to drink more water.
