My latest piece for HealthyPet magazine is getting noticed. How fun is that? In addition to the 3 million people who will see it in first run, we got a request last week from the Papillon Club of America to reprint it in their newsletter. Plus, I got permission from the publisher for my big-picture trainer (Gigi) to give copies to her puppy K and beginning obedience students.
Such requests are affirming because it says that other “dog people” recognize the importance of the topic. For example, I was happy when the Australian Shepherd club wanted to reprint a piece I did a few years ago on canine knee surgery.
So, if you get the spring 2008 issue in the mail from your veterinarian or if you see one in the waiting room, check out page 18 for “Canine Social Graces — Things dogs do that may offend other dogs.” Yes, it comes from Lilly’s experiences with boisterous dogs.
The process of finding good ideas (and then selling them) is tough, but I like to think that the things I worry or wonder about are the same things other people think about too. I just get the chance to write about them.
So, three cheers for me (and for my editor for buying the article).
