At our last veterinary neurology appointment, Lilly got the OK to do agility and other more strenuous tasks so that her brain can start figuring out how to rewire certain movements. I convinced myself that Lilly jumped differently and weaved weirdly, but after looking at old agility videos, it seems more like Lilly exaggerates her movements following her “brain injury.” Videos, ahoy!

I thought for sure that Lilly was jumping with her butt WAY high now, but the old videos show she always flew high in the rear. She does, however, jump a little too early or a little too late now … likely from poor motor planning on her part.

And, I had convinced myself that she moved her rear legs independently in the past while weaving, but this old video from when she was 3 years old, proves me wrong.

So, for comparison’s sake …

P.S. That’s a fetching stick in my hand as Lilly’s reward.

If you are new to our scary story of a rabies vaccine gone horribly wrong, feel free to use the blog post category pull-down menu in the sidebar or this Adverse Vaccine Reaction category link to access all the posts we’ve published since Lilly got very, very sick with meningoencephalomyelitis (inflammation of the brain and lining of the brain and spinal cord) after an adverse reaction to a rabies vaccine given January 23, 2012. We’re working VERY hard to help her fully recover from both her cognitive and neurological deficits.

  1. I think she’s doing quite great. Go Lilly! If a funny weave was to be all that’s left from the horror, that’d be perfectly awesome.

  2. What a grand come-back Lilly is making! She looks wonderful to me and more than happy to be exercising with you.

    Cheers all around!

  3. Lilly looks so happy! It’s so good to see her doing something that she so obviously loves to do with you. The new weave style is something that I’ve seen before in my classes. Nothing to worry about, I don’t think. Her hind end isn’t working as fast as her brain, but that may right itself in time. And if it doesn’t, no big deal. She’s happy!

  4. I literally watched the new video, became confused, and thought that you had mistakenly put up another one of her old videos. I then scrolled back to the beginning of the video and learned that it was, indeed, a recent video. I had NO idea that she would look that good. OMG!

  5. OMgoodness, Roxanne! Made me teary-eyed! Lilly truly is your champion heart dog! I’m so very happy she is getting her mo-jo back!!! :o} It’s been an honor to follow your journey…
