A terrific cartoon by Gemma Correll is making the rounds on Facebook. It shows a female party goer making friends with the host’s cat. It’s funny because it’s true. While taking pictures of a bulldog named Margie at the Colorado Authors’ League party Saturday, a fellow writer asked, “Why are you doing that?”
I replied, “Because Margie is one of my favorite people.”
Clearly.
Later, as the party wound down, I sat on the floor with sweet Margie. She went belly-up immediately and let me play the pretend bongos on her tummy. Margie is 3 years old now. She lives with my friend Sally, and getting to see Margie at parties is SUCH a bonus.
P.S. Margie is the only bulldog I’ve met in person who has a real waistline.
If you’re thinking about getting a bulldog, I’ll simply point you to this recent New York Times piece about bulldogs.
So I’m not the only person who goes to parties to spend all my time on the floor with the dog or cat? Whew. I was beginning to think I was weird.
I met one Bulldog with a waistline who could jump about five feet straight in the air. I was SO impressed I wouldn’t stop pestering the owner with how amazing their dog was. I was so in love. Sigh. It’s nice to know there are living breathing better-than-the-rest specimens out there.
I do the same thing at parties. 🙂
Thanks, Jen. I’m testing out the new installation of Comment Luv. I hope my fellow bloggers like it. I’ve been meaning to add it for ages. ;o)
Margie is a svelte bulldog! Very nice to see.
