FREE e-book "8 Things to Know About Veterinary Care"

October 10, 2011

The ASPCA launched a campaign to educate people about the puppy mill sources of puppies sold in pet stores. You too can take the pledge NEVER to shop for anything in stores that sell puppies. And, you can sign a petition to the White House, asking for legislation to close dog care loopholes (particularly for mass puppy breeders who sell pups via the internet).

I know you guys. I’m confident that you know all too well where pet store puppies come from and what it means to give your money to stores that propagate this icky dogs-as-cash-crop industry.

So, I don’t share this because I think you need to learn about puppy mills … like the 78% of people who do NOT know the source of puppies sold in pet stores or puppies sold online … or the 48% of people who know all about puppy mills, but would STILL buy a puppy at a pet store if it was the breed of dog they wanted.

best dog blog, champion of my heart, aspca no pet store puppies graphicI share this because if you sign the No Pet Store Puppies Petition … they’ll contact pet stores that DO sell puppies in your local area and let them know that YOU won’t ever spend a dime in their stores as long as they sell pups. Think of how many notes a single store get if everyone like us signed.

The petition is open indefinitely, but I hope you’ll pop over right now and sign.

No Pet Store Puppies Petition

best dog blog, champion of my heart, white house pictureI share this because the White House has committed to responding to any petition gathering at least 5,000 signatures within 30 days. This one met that threshold in less than a week and continues to grow with 12,700 signatures and counting. I was # 12,701.

This federal petition is open through October 23, 2011.

  1. Thanks for this, Roxanne. I’ve come to the conclusion that while a minority of people don’t know about pet stores and puppy mills, the majority of people who shop of them are aware and are just selfish people who don’t care about the plight of the animals. I’m signing right now.

  2. The issue of puppy mills just really gets me going.

Another thing that really bothers me is that the Amish are responsible for many of the puppy mill dogs.

I’ll be sure to sign it.

  3. Hi Y’all,

What a great idea! We have no local pet stores, we are so rural. However, I’ll have my Human hop over and sign anyway. They’ll hopefully notify any stores in our local cities…which are about 2 hours away.

    Y’all come by now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  4. My email came right away and I was #14,214 – I hope the list of signatures continues to grow! Thanks for sharing this Roxanne!!

  5. Thanks for this, Roxanne. I bet a lot of people don’t know about puppy mills, and what a great way to help spread the word by signing the petition and spending ZERO dollars in stores that sell puppies.
