FREE e-book "8 Things to Know About Veterinary Care"

May 13, 2010

I learned about these new service puppies via Twitter last week. Never one to turn down a little awww factor. I thought I’d share. These little stinkers will go into training as service dogs with Service Dogs of Virginia.

Laurie Luck from Smart Dog University, who has been raising and training Talos (the service puppy featured in yesterday’s puppy food post), will likely take on one of these sweeties next … since Talos is set to leave soon to continue his training now that the “puppy raising” stage is over.

There truly is just too much cuteness in the video below too. They, indeed, are destined for greatness. Honestly, service dogs are one of the best applications of dog training that I can imagine.

I’ve recommended this book before, but if you need a summer read, consider Around the Next Corner by Colorado author Elizabeth Wren. It features a woman who raise a service puppy as a way to cope with what’s going on in her real life. Wren, actually raised a pup, as part of her research. When that pup later blew a knee and got “career changed” out of the program, she adopted her into their family. I interviewed and wrote about Wrenn for The Bark when the book first came out. (I see on her site that her new book is out in the UK already. I cannot wait to read it.)

** Some day, I’ll figure out how to make the YouTube embed screen fit our blog design.

  1. Thanks for the adorable pictures! I’ve been a bit blue and needed that! I get sick a lot and I often need my fuzzy little dog to help me feel better. Dogs are great therapy and for that reason I might just pick up that book you mentioned. Thanks for the suggestion!
