The Petstages Heartbeat Pillow features a noise-making, electronic device that sounds like a momma dog’s heart beating. It’s meant to comfort young dogs. You know, like the old trick of putting a ticking clock in bed with a new puppy.
Well, my two grown-up canine beasts (photos below) are probably too big and too old for this toy. They pretty much killed the ticking device in the first day.
(Tom says he can fix it.)
But, even without the ticking sound, Ginko — in particular — has adopted the Petstages Heartbeat Pillow as one of his “babies.”
We know this because Ginko:
- Carries it around
- Cuddles with it when he naps
- Has little panic attacks if he forgets it somewhere
- Pulls it from the toy basket first thing each morning
But, first … both dogs really, Really, REALLY needed to chew on it.

FTC Disclosure: Petstages did indeed give me this toy for free. However, I was not compensated in any way for this review.
I love that Ginko has to have it near him. I think Daisy would be like him and want it in her kennel with her. Jasper, on the other hand, would gladly dismantle it – piece by piece. 🙂
Your reasons that Ginko likes it are cute! We certainly don’t want him having any panic attacks so make sure he can easily find it, lol!
I used to buy plush toys for my dogs all the time – that was until “Jenna” entered the picture. She eats anything cloth, so we can’t buy them for “Maggie” who absolutely loves them. She goes up to our neighbors house and goes nuts with Boo’s stuffed toys.
I think this is a wonderful idea — anything we can do help the transition from their moms to their new family be a smoother event, then I am all for it.
Every doggy needs a comfy 🙂
What do you think made the dogs, particularly Ginko, so fond of this toy? Did it start with the ticking or was it something else?
You know, Pamela, I’m not sure. Neither of the dogs seemed to be obsessed with it making noise. They didn’t, for example, tip their heads and look at it funny or anything. Sometimes Ginko just takes a liking to a plush toy. He also has this crazy chew toy that we first bought for our Dalmatian 20 some years ago. It’s all torn up and sad, but to this day … it’s his fav fav fav.
