FREE e-book "8 Things to Know About Veterinary Care"

November 26, 2007

I am thrilled to share the news that our pal Joy Bishop and her awesome dog Keen earned their MACH over Thanksgiving weekend. I wasn’t there, but rumor has it that they did NOT take the cautious route to their final double Q. Instead, I hear that they ran full speed. Honestly, if you ever get a chance to see them run (like at the AKC event in Long Beach in December), go watch. Keen has the most compact running style I’ve ever seen.

Here’s a photo The Denver Post took of them at a USDAA event in CO in summer 2006.

The thing I love about Keen is that he is fast, but not in that I’m-crazy-out-of-my-mind kind of way. Keen has drive, but he’s not completely nuts … in other words. He’s a really nice, mellow guy in his regular life, but when he runs, watch out!

When he lands from a jump, he’s back up to full speed in a single heartbeat. And, since Joy is a tiny, very fast person herself, they just rocket around the course. It’s really something to see.

So, the biggest congratulations possible to Joy and Keen. Me thinks they’re poised for great runs in Long Beach in December and a return to the World Team in 2008.

  1. It is a great photo. I think it shows that idea Joy teaches about creating a bubble around you and your dog after a run, where the dog knows that he or she is the only thing that matters in the whole world. Plus, Keen is the perfect hugging size.

Wow! I had not heard about her winter travels. That’s great since she’ll be able to train and not freeze her butt off, but I can understand how bummed you’ll be. I was very sad when we had to give up training with her after Lilly’s shutdowns got worse and worse.

Still, I credit her with Lilly’s rock-solid contacts (despite our teeter issues). ;o)

  2. What a great photo, I missed it somehow. Joy’s going down to Florida for the winter and I’m bummed, no more classes until spring.
