FREE e-book "8 Things to Know About Veterinary Care"

October 4, 2013

UPDATE: October 14, 2013. This event has been cancelled due to lack of interest. Only one person completed the attendance form, so we will NOT be doing a live web broadcast event on October 20.

Technology Notes

It appears that Google+ Hangout is the best option. A total of 10 people, including me and Lilly, can take part. I think what I have to do is create a special Google+ “circle” for participants, then launch a Hangout that invites them to join at the appointed time. There is a way to launch the Hangout, then manually email the link. So, I may do that as well, just to be sure.

On the techno front, it appears participants will need the following :

  1. A fast-enough internet connection to handle the video / audio feed
  2. A Google+ profile (and email linked to that account) that you’re signed into
  3. A webcam
  4. Headphones
  5. Possibly download a Hangout Plugin (I believe I had to download something when I did an video interview on HuffPostLIVE.)

For those not chosen to be one of the 9 participants, I’m looking at a web ‘broadcast” option where you could watch. We would essentially post the link on our Champion of My Heart Facebook Fan Page. It might be TOO much to try for our first event, but I’ll see what I can figure out.

I’ve done a couple of TEST Hangouts so far with Hilary from Fang Shui Canines (who was THE adoption counselor at Humane Society of Boulder Valley to approve my adoption of Lilly in 2004) and with Jana from Dawg Business and the Dog Health Issues Group on Facebook.  After some initial trouble with them NOT being able to hear me, it worked OK.

If you’re chosen to play along, you might want to try a Hangout test of your own, just to get the hang of it.

Date and Time Details

Sunday, October 20

  • 6 pm Eastern Time
  • 5 pm Central Time
  • 4 pm Mountain Time
  • 3 pm Pacific Time

I’m guessing we’ll chat for no more than an hour — maybe more like 30 minutes.

If You’re Interested …

Please complete the form below. The deadline for entries is Friday, October 11, 2013, @ 10 pm (mountain time).

My husband and some of my dog blogging pals will help select the LIVE video chat participants. We’ll notify those chosen on Monday, October 14, via email.

Back when we polled readers about a possible LIVE web event, 95% answered YES! So, we hope at least a few people might have the time / interest in attending.

If I did this right, submitted forms will be emailed to me.

  1. Just saw your comment in fb about cancelling your event. I had not even seen the original invitation, so maybe plenty of other pals didn’t know about it either. I would attend but I will be out of town for 2 weeks, including your dates.
I think you should still go ahead and hold it anyway and make it something really AWESOME so pals know they missed out on something and not to miss out next time.
Perhaps make the time frame shorter, even 15 mins for the first one, two; you can always go over time if there’s a need.
Still hold your event – don’t give up! :=o)
