FREE e-book "8 Things to Know About Veterinary Care"

June 3, 2008

Today, June 3, my friend Karen Quinn’s third book HOLLY WOULD DREAM comes out. If you love funny, smart, modern fiction, please consider buying it right away so that we can help Karen achieve the goal of having 3 best-sellers in just over 3 years.

You might not know this, but best-sellers are made and broken in the first week or two after release. So, it helps authors to buy books sooner rather than later. If you watched the TODAY show this morning and saw a bunch of women in black dresses in the crowd … that was Karen and her book promo posse. They went to breakfast at Tiffany’s afterwards, of course.

This new title is an Audrey Hepburn inspired romp, with plenty of cultural depth and just enough romance to keep things interesting. It’s grown-up chick-lit, with a brain. (And, I’m a total book snob, with that fancy private college degree in literature, so if I like the books … they must be good!)

Here’s a recap from Karen’s site:

Holly Ross often wishes she lived in a simpler time, when the
clothes were glamorous, the men debonair, and the endings happy. That
said, her new career as a fashion historian isn’t so bad. With both a
wedding and a big promotion coming up, she finally seems to “be
enjoying the sunny side of life.
So how, in the space of one day, does it all go wrong? How does she
end up homeless, jobless, penniless, and fiancé-less? Why is she
cruising the Mediterranean in hot pursuit of real estate tycoon Denis
King? And why, for heaven’s sake, is she chasing down a suitcase full
of stolen Audrey Hepburn gowns?

With the sparkling Mediterranean and the eternal city of Rome as the
backdrop, Holly’s adventures begin to resemble one of the 1950’s
Hollywood gems she so adores. Finally, she must choose between her
long-held fairytale fantasy and a new, real-life dream with an ending
she couldn’t possibly imagine.

Karen’s first book THE IVY CHRONICLES is being made into a movie. Seriously! Who me? Jealous? It tells the tale of a woman who runs a consulting firm that helps NYC parents get their offspring into the right kindergarten program. Not kidding. Her second book WIFE IN THE FASTLANE features a PTA showdown that will make you cry it’s so funny (and SO true).

Karen’s work makes me laugh, laugh, laugh. So, this summer (or right now … hint, hint), if you need a chuckle, please buy one or ALL of her books.

Me? I’m looking forward to Karen’s Colorado book launch (she grew up here) in a couple weeks. Now, I’d best slip on my best Hepburn-esque little black dress just to be sure my not-so-little-behind still fits inside. If not, guess who’s going to be hungry and crabby in the meantime?

About the Author Roxanne Hawn

Trained as a traditional journalist and based in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, USA, I'm a full-time freelance writer for magazines, websites, and private clients. My areas of specialty include everything in the lifestyles arena, including health and home, personal finance and other consumer interests, relationships and trends, people and business profiles ... and, of course, all things pet related.

I don't just love dogs. I need them in my life. Seriously.

  1. I have a copy of this book but a friend borrowed it and it was never returned. 🙁

  2. Yep. Me too. Especially since she wrote IVY after losing her job. She said, “I’m going to write a best-seller.” And, she sat down and did just that in like a month (maybe 3 months, I don’t remember for sure). You can’t hate her, though, because she’s just as cute as a button.

She’d also say that feeling jealous simply means that you’re on the verge of your BIG THING coming true too. So, try to keep that in mind.

In fact, wish upon a star for me, if you can … I’m waiting to hear on 2 gigs that could change my year (and beyond) if they come through. How cool would that be?
