KB asked earlier this week about the new buttons (del.icio.us, Stumbles, Technorati, Digg) at the bottom of our blog posts. Here’s the scoop on what they are. Without getting too technical, let’s just say they’re all forms of online popularity contests, which can help sites or blogs gain attention and readers. So, check out these four sites and see which one (or more) fits your style. Each one is an entertaining microcosm of that day’s “new” or “hot items” on the Internet for that day. And, if you’re ever inclined to say publicialy in a social networking kind of way that you approve of our content here at Champion of My Heart, we’d appreciate a little button-clicking love. In fact, let’s just agree that it’s a form of Click/Treat for bloggers.
del.icio.us
This social bookmarking site lets you save, tag, and share pages/sites you like with anyone from anywhere. It’s a good way to keep track of your favorite things and add them to others’ favorites.
Stumble Upon
You probably receive or send notes to pals after you find something funny or interesting online. Think of Stumble Upon as a broader version of that. When you Stumble something, you get the chance to give it a Thumbs Up or a Thumbs Down. The software keeps track of things you like and will suggest similar links that others like you have Stumbled. I’m guessing it’s a lot like the software the drives Amazon, where it can tell you what others looked at and purchased when searching for the same things you did.
Technorati
By combining common search categories with entry tagging, Technorati makes searching user-generated content easier. It’s a great way to find blogs based on your own areas of interest (including news, sports, politics … whatever).
Digg
Digg is much like Stumble Upon. People can click on blog entries, online news stories, videos, or other content and say basically, “Hey, I digg this!”
All of the sites require you register (for free).
