FREE e-book "8 Things to Know About Veterinary Care"

July 24, 2009

Prepare for another mini-rant rooted in utter dismay. A “new” solution to dog aggression? Disarm the dog’s canine teeth. Not kidding. It’s tedious to click through The Los Angeles Times photo slideshow and accompanying text, but the gist of it is that after trying training methods, including those from the TV show by He Who Shall Not Be Named (fourth photo), this family chose to have a veterinary dentist cut off the points of their dog’s canine teeth. Here’s a big surprise: The dog still bites.

The conclusion text floored me. It reads in part, “Krieger says Cotton still pounces at any man who ventures onto herproperty. The family’s gardener, Guadalupe Davila, obligingly offeredhis booted foot for Cotton’s delectation. After 30 seconds of ferociousgnawing, Cotton had only succeeded in lightly scoring the thickleather. Whether or not he learns from such experiences has yet to be determined.

Gee … if the dog is allowed to bite, I wonder what he is learning?
