We spend a lot of time on the floor with Lilly. Likely for a variety of reasons, she often is not comfortable on softer surfaces. She chooses to hunker down on the hard floor. Great for her, I suppose, if she is comfortable, not so great for us. My search for something to cushion my own bod resulted in this brief, high praise of memory foam bath mats.
The main level of our house features tile flooring. We do have a few area rugs here and there, but the tile is hard and cold if you spend much time on it — even on the rugs.
After considering a memory foam bed topper (twin sized at around $100-$120), I settled on a couple of $10 memory foam bath mats instead.
Individually, stacked on top of each other, or folded over so that both Tom and I can have some extra thick padding, they are working pretty well for our nest in front of the fireplace — where we spend evenings and early mornings with Lilly.
When Lilly first gets up and potties, eats (though, reluctantly lately), and takes her meds, she wants to go back to sleep. She can never get comfortable in bed with us, so all of us traipse out into the living room and snuggle in a mess of blankets, pillows, and memory foam bath mats.
Everyone else goes back to sleep. I do not. It’s a skill I don’t have. It is nice to cuddle with my girl and listen to her rest comfortably, though. So, I stay on the floor — my bath mat for padding — as long as I can.
So, there’s my practical tip for a Dog Mom Bed on the floor. Try memory foam bath mats to pad ye old bod.
What an awesome idea!!! I am going to put these in my dog walking van!!! I have a few seniors and a little gal with cerebral palsy that I walk that would really benefit from these…it would make their van ride a lot more comfortable and enjoyable!! Thanks for the smart idea!! 🙂
