Yesterday, I shared what research I found about the rarity of serious, neurological adverse vaccine reactions like what Lilly suffered earlier this year. Today, a bit of a riff and a rant on my own “data.”
Indeed, in the scientific literature, I ONLY found tiny, tiny references to other dogs developing neurological issues after receiving a vaccine. Yes, I found ZERO references to exactly what happened to Lilly.
I’m no wizard with numbers, but here is how it looks at my house after:
- Spending nearly $9,000 spent (so far) to save Lilly’s life
- Having daily care-taking duties for her
- Feeling awful about not knowing this was even possible
What’s the incidence rate of meningoencephalomyelitis / meningoencephalitis (inflammation of the brain and lining of the brain and spinal cord) after a rabies vaccine?
- 50% of the dogs currently living in my house
- 25% of the dogs I’ve owned in my adult life
I’ve been through a lot of difficult situations with my dogs over the years, including cancer, parvo, rattlesnake bites (two of them), major orthopedic surgeries … to name just a few.
But, this experience BY FAR has been the hardest.
Lilly will NEVER be the same, and it’s all because of a legally required vaccine.
Here is a video reminder of Lilly at her worst.

Thanks a lot for sharing this useful information. Hope Lily gets better soon enough.
Roxanne, this is so sad! But I just want you to know, as someone who has been researching human vaccines for over 20 years, ALL vaccines can cause encephalomyelitis, meningitis and other neurological conditions. In fact, many vaccines are used in laboratories to induce these conditions for study (for instance, the whooping cough vaccine is used to induce what is called acute allergic encephalomyelitis) but when an encephalitic condition follows the administration of this vaccine in NON-laboratory settings, it is coincidental. If you haven’t already, I highly suggest you read the excellent books – Shock to the System by Catherine O’Driscoll and The Vaccine Guide for Dogs and Cats by Caterine Diodati. Both of these books explain in great detail just how and why so many companion animals are being permanently harmed by vaccines. I wih you all the very best with Lilly’s recovery.
All the best,

Thanks, Meryl, for dropping by to comment. Do you know if there are any characteristics that make an individual (person or animal) more likely to suffer this vaccine-related outcome?
Good post! I look forward to reading more about what you’ve found out.
Thanks for sharing about rabies vaccine…
Oh my…reading this I just remembered something. 35 years ago, my son was bit by a rattle snake. An old family doctor told me that rattle snake bites effect the immune system and can change it. Do you think there is any correlation between her last rattle snake bite and this reaction? Doubt you will find any statistics on that!
@Candy ~ Lilly’s TWO rattlesnake bites in 2008 and 2010 are certainly something we’ve thought about, relating to this case, but I’ve talked to her doctors about it, and they noted these medical history items in her chart, but no one thinks that the snakebites primed her system (in a bad way) for this to happen … especially since her last one was 18-months / 2 years before the vaccine was given.
