FREE e-book "8 Things to Know About Veterinary Care"

January 4, 2012

best dog blog, champion of my heart, 24-hour dog day challengeAs Lilly and I began our holiday time off, we issued a challenge to our readers and fans via Facebook to spend one solid day (24 straight hours) with their dogs. Yes, in many cases, that means sleeping or cuddling a lot, but we’d love to know what else you did on your dog day.

Our dog days vary depending upon weather. For example, over the holidays a boatload of snow fell in our valley. The storms included cold temps and wind. We did indeed sled a lot one day, Alas, when the temps finally warmed up after xmas, the winds went wild with, seriously, 100 mile-per-hour gusts for several days.

We’re hearty girls around here, but not that hearty.

So, our dog days include various activities, along with all the napping and smooching the dogs can stand:

  • Eating meals from food delivery toys
  • Playing fetch (either outside or in the house)
  • Playing tug-of-war
  • Stuffing toys with pieces of fruit or vegetables
  • Taking walks up the mountain and back
  • Just sitting on our hill, looking around
  • Doing a little dog massage or grooming

Did you take on our 24-Hour Dog Day Challenge? If so, how’d it go? What did you and your dog(s) do?

I don't just love dogs. I need them in my life. Seriously.

  1. After a long game of fetch in the park and meeting a friendly Border Collie, Honey slept for several hours straight. I couldn’t bring myself to join her. I guess she didn’t mind me getting in some computer time while she napped.

  2. We had to check our dog into a kennel over part of the holidays since we were traveling. He seemed so sad when he got back (it wasn’t his usual place) so we showered him with attention after–and a good bath!
