FREE e-book "8 Things to Know About Veterinary Care"

April 13, 2011

Today, April 13, 2011, marks the FOURTH anniversary of Champion of My Heart. Forget “dog years,” I believe this makes us downright ancient in blog years. As part of our celebration, I’m writing to ask for your help. Happy Tails Books, owned and operated by Be the Change Royalty Kyla Duffy, invited me and Lilly to share ONE best-of blog post in a book of stories by top pet bloggers (a charity project). And, I cannot decide which of our many posts to pick, polish, and submit.

We have more than 1,000 posts at this point from which to choose. So, among all our adventures dating back four years, which one do you think makes the short list of BEST?

I suppose the stories of our ups and downs fall into a few broad categories:

  • Dog training successes
  • Dog training failures
  • Full-blown dog adventures
  • Scary dog emergencies
  • Reflective posts about life lessons

Well, I suspect rants count as memorable posts too, but I doubt Kyla wants a rant in her book.

Best Dog Blog Posts: The Big Ones

Because it garnered so much dog blog traffic and other social media attention, I’m tempted to choose this recent and popular post:

5 Ways a Fearful Dog Improves Your Life

But, there are many other options, including:

Lilly’s first rattlesnake bite, Lilly’s second rattlesnake bite, and the time Ginko saved Lilly from her third rattlesnake bite

Lilly and the Technicolor Vomit from December 2010

The one and only time Lilly ran the full-sized, agility competition teeter-totter

Our successes with canine anxiety medications and the Relaxation Protocol

Best Dog Blog Posts: The Poll

You are certainly welcome to advise us and nominate specific stories for this book project via comments to this blog post, but we also created a little one-question poll to narrow down the kind of posts to consider.

About the Author Roxanne Hawn

Trained as a traditional journalist and based in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, USA, I'm a full-time freelance writer for magazines, websites, and private clients. My areas of specialty include everything in the lifestyles arena, including health and home, personal finance and other consumer interests, relationships and trends, people and business profiles ... and, of course, all things pet related.

I don't just love dogs. I need them in my life. Seriously.

  1. Congrats on the 4 year milestone — impressive. My favorite posts are the ones where you delve into the emotional life of Lily and make parallels for us humans, like the anxiety post, so count me in the life lessons camp.

  2. Looks like “life lessons” is winning! (That got my vote.) I do have a soft spot in my heart for the Technicolor Vomit and Fearful Dog posts. Happy Anniversary!

  3. I also really really loved the post with embedded video of Lily putting her toys away. She was a star in all ways!

  4. So many posts to choose from! Congratulations on four years in the blogging world, that’s quite an accomplishment. And, of course this would not be possible without Lily. P.S., I like the reflective posts.

  5. Congratulations on all your success with the blog, Roxanne. I’ve enjoyed all of your posts; the ones that resonate deepest are the reflective posts (although I must admit that a part of me is drawn to the technicolor vomit…it just sounds so…interesting). I have such a deep connection with my dog, and I’m right there with you!

  6. 4 years is quite an accomplishment! I have loved getting to know Lily. She is an amazing dog and I don’t know how to pick a post either. The paintball one stands out in my mind, but mostly because it was just such a horrible thing.

  7. Congrats dear on being such an amazing blogger and sticking with it for so long. I’m hoping to read A BOOK BY YOU sometime very very soon. Happy anniversary! And hugs to Lilly too.

  8. There have been so many memorable posts! Gee. I don’t think I can choose a favorite. Congratulations on four years! I have been writing my blog for five, so I totally understand all the work that has gone into 1000 posts. Bravo!
