FREE e-book "8 Things to Know About Veterinary Care"

February 17, 2011

First, it was peaches. Then, we had to do a banana intervention.  And, now … what kind of fruit and/or vegetable heist do you suppose resulted in Ginko making this “Who me?” face?

Considering both dogs now enjoy a regular dose of fruit and veggie pulp from our new juicer, I suppose this shouldn’t come as a surprise, but …

First, there were 4
Then, there were 2
Proof!

During our Saturday afternoon workout, I thought I heard a couple of thumps from upstairs, but I figured the dogs were just monkeying around.

Then, as we had a quick dinner before driving up to Boulder for “Don’t Kill Bill: A Dog Lover’s Night Out”, I realized that Ginko wasn’t near the table. And, he is always near the table at mealtimes.

I could see the tip of his head, and he was clearly engrossed with something on his bed.

That’s how I found him snarfing down what’s now classified as proof.

I thought maybe it was his first, but when Tom brought his dishes into the kitchen he hollered, “There were four.”

“Four what?” I asked in my haste to get the dogs settled and us out the door.

“Four cucumbers. I left four on the counter. There’s only one left.”

Yep. It looks like Ginko enjoyed a lovely snack of 2 1/2 cucumbers on Saturday.

I feared for what might result from such a veggie feast, but we needed to hit the road for the event in Boulder, so I crossed my fingers we wouldn’t return to any icky cleanups.

And … we didn’t.

Good boy, Ginko. Rotten boy, yes. But, good boy.

I don't just love dogs. I need them in my life. Seriously.

  1. Ginko cracks me up! We can’t leave any veggies out or low because that would result in no salad for me. Our dogs get yellow squash, zucchini and if my husband remembers cucumber (he hates cukes) for dinner every night. My salad gets cucumbers and tomatoes but not without sharing with all 3 of our dogs.

  2. Hahahaha! I am so glad to know that so many other dogs love their vegetables too. My dog isn’t so weird for viewing lettuce as a special treat after all!

Which is why we don’t leave anything out on the counter unless we’re in the kitchen. There is nothing she won’t consider surf-worthy. 🙂

    Ginko is too cute.

    1. Not weird at all, Kristine. I often give the dogs any veggie trimmings when I’m cooking. A few things don’t fly … like celery, but most everything else does. And, thank you … Ginko is a very cute boy, I agree. Big moose!

  3. These are great photos! Now I know what you meant when you said, on Saturday night, that Ginko was munching down the cucumbers! He needs to teach Lilly that veggies taste better than paintballs!

  4. Crunchy veggies are great for dogs. Honey just loves a big old carrot or hunk of winter squash. It’s certainly better (and cheaper) than most of the digestible chews in the pet food store.

  5. Oh my gosh, I LOVE that photo of Ginko! Caught red-pawed!
Our Gobo used to countersurf all the time. In fact, I had an artist friend made a mug for Joe with a cartoon of Gobo countersurfing.
But cucumbers — that’s an odd one!
