Paintball Poisoning Update 4:30 pm

I’m sorry I didn’t have time to post until now. I tried desperately to get some work done so that I can take care of Lilly when she comes home, which is right about NOW. Tom is picking her up as I write this.

Lilly’s sodium and other electrolyte levels stayed in the safe range all night and all day, thanks to lots and lots of fluids (both via IV and up the old wazoo).

She never did have any tremors or seizures, which is amazing considering the quantity of paintballs consumed … and her relatively small size.

Our regular veterinarian called to check on me earlier today, after she got the overnight report from the ER hospital. We chatted about how things went down, the timeline to intervention and all that. She flat out told me:

“You did the right thing, and you probably saved her life.”

Um, wow.

I promise when I recover from the scary, worry, and lack of sleep that I will give you all the details on how on earth this happened, what we did immediately and why this was SUCH a risk … because sometimes it’s smart to induce vomiting on your own, sometimes it can make things much, much worse.

Lilly Homecoming Prep

I cooked up some rice and boiled some chicken breasts so that Lilly can eat bland food for a couple days until her tummy recovers from all the vomiting and doggy colonics (every 3 hours).

Maybe those probiotics and prebiotics someone wanted me to try and review will come soon. That might be a big help.

I’m also superheating the back bathroom and have a fire going to warm the house up. Despite “promises” last night’s doctor made, the staff didn’t have time to give Lilly a bath. So, we’ll have to do it when she gets home. (sad face) A veterinary technician said earlier that Lilly isn’t “wicked dirty,” but after… all she has been through, how can that be?

So, as much as neither of us have the energy, Lilly and I have a date with the shower when she gets home.

I’ve already put the shampoo and two big pitchers of warm water in there. I have the towels at the ready, and we’ll just do it.

To keep myself busy, I did mondo loads of laundry, so we’ll have fresh sheets. The plan is to keep Lilly in bed with us for at least a few nights so that we can keep an eye on her.

In fact, we might just stay in bed and read and watch movies all day tomorrow.
