FREE e-book "8 Things to Know About Veterinary Care"

October 22, 2010

We’ve nearly run out of BlogPaws Schwag to review. Thank goodness, though, we got this Hartz DuraPlay ball. It’s Lilly’s favorite ball, and we thought they were no longer making it because we haven’t been able to find one in local stores, and my emergency stash is depleted.

Sadly, Lilly has already ruined the squeaker in the one we got at BlogPaws because she repeatedly dunked it in water and thoroughly soaked the foam inside. I wring it out the best I can, but this habit of washing her toys like a raccoon washing its food kills both the squeaker and the ball’s bounce … making it less fun and less on the DURA in DuraPlay.

We shot most of this video product review before any damage happened, but stay tuned because you can hear the pathetic, toilet-plunger sound that’s left once Lilly kills the squeaker that she loves so much.

*** FTC Disclosure

This gift from Hartz was indeed free and in my BlogPaws Schwag bag. I’m under no obligation to post this. I just wanted to.

It’s also important to note that just because Lilly likes this Hartz product that does NOT mean we like or endorse some of their other products.

About the Author Roxanne Hawn

Trained as a traditional journalist and based in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, USA, I'm a full-time freelance writer for magazines, websites, and private clients. My areas of specialty include everything in the lifestyles arena, including health and home, personal finance and other consumer interests, relationships and trends, people and business profiles ... and, of course, all things pet related.

I don't just love dogs. I need them in my life. Seriously.

  1. Did you ever find this duraplay ball? It’s by far the best toy we’ve ever had for our Wheaten, Izzy. She adores it, and the squeak is still there after about four months (for most balls it’s about a half hour). If I ever find it again I’m going to buy all they have.

  2. I’ve also been searching for one of these. Fergus and Rory, my dogs, (and my neighbor’s dog) loved the one I got from Blogpaws and it lasted really well but, eventually the puppy managed to peel back the rubber outer coat. I think three dogs fighting over it eventually wore it out! It did last longer than almost every other ball my dogs have had.

I’d love to find a replacement because it kept the dogs entertained for ages and the puppy did some fabulous acrobatics trying to catch it mid-air! My neighbor has also been looking for one because her dog loved it so much too.

  3. So funny!!! This is Cosmo’s favorite ball too and we searched high and low and haven’t been able to find it anywhere else either! We’re also planning to post on this at some point… since Cosmo has essentially ruined the underside of my sofa while frantically trying to dig this ball out. The sofa is exactly high enough for a ball to fit under and exactly low enough so that Cosmo cannot!

PS We need to ask Hartz what’s up with the availability of the DuraPlay Ball!!

    1. I know, Diane. They used to call these balls something else, and they were not as durable. These seem stronger, but Lilly still ruins them quickly with her water technique. I have not seen these balls anywhere, but at BlogPaws. They used to have them in the pet section of a local grocery store, but no more.

Even when I tried to find a web link to show people, I could not even find that … even on the Hartz page. Very annoying.

I think there is just something about the texture the foam gives these balls our dogs love them so much. That and the squeaker. And, when the ball is new, it does have a really nice bounce trajectory that Lilly likes.

She will still play with it even when it loses it’s oomph, but not with as much gusto.

  4. You should send great video to Hartz and maybe they will send Lilly some more! Now Betsy and Norman want to try this ball too!
