Last week, we had an unexpected and exciting chance to have a little date with Lisa Spector, the pianist behind Through A Dog’s Ear: Music to Calm Your Canine Companion. Alas, our hastily-made plans fell through. It was just one of two failed attempts at fun last weekend.
Lisa posted a casual note on Facebook about being in CO, and being the total spaz I am, I immediately pounced on the idea of a date.
I probably should have blown off my Friday to have lunch with Lisa, which was her first choice, but finding time to work these days is harder than you might imagine.
Plus, temperatures hit 99 in the city last Friday, and that meant Lilly would have had to stay home. That’s just TOO hot, and I didn’t know if we could find a place to nosh and chat that allowed dogs.
So, I talked Lisa into a Saturday morning thing instead, but then her local hosts (she was in CO on biz) kept her out WAY late. That on top of a hectic travel schedule in June meant she was just too fried to play.
We did, however, get a chance to confab on the phone Saturday evening while she burned time at Denver International Airport before her flight back to California.
She told me some SUPER exciting news, but I promised not to spill the beans. Sorry kids. A reporter’s promise is a promise when it comes to embargoed news. BUT, you can stay tuned to Lisa’s new blog for all kinds of advice and updates.

We’re big fans to say the least.
But, I may have convinced Lisa to attend the BlogPaws conference in Denver this fall, so maybe we’ll still get to meet in person.
Our Second Weekend Glitch
After we bummed out about missing our chance to see Lisa, I thought perhaps we’d squeeze in a dog training class on Sunday. We haven’t been to class since Feb 3. Oy!
But wouldn’t you know it? I finally might have time, but it’s the last weekend of the month and our trainer (Gigi Moss) doesn’t teach on the last Sunday of the month.
My timing is all off.
So, with this holiday weekend approaching, I’m bordering on desperate to have some fun, any fun, that gives me even a TINY break from the non-stop family medical drama that continues to nibble away at my days (and my sanity).
Thankfully, unlike those of you who live in firework infested areas (aka … Sam & Marge!), I do NOT have to spend the next week (or month) worrying about noise driving Lilly into a fear-induced panic.

Thanks for the intro to Lisa and the Calming Music. Kona isn’t too sound sensitive (except to people hollering in the distance), but I’m going to look into this. Maybe it will help make car trips easier?

There is a special dog-calming music CD for the car. It’s a bit less sedative than the house ones because they don’t want the driver getting sleepy. I don’t like the music as well as I do the others, but I believe others have had good luck with it.
Lilly is totally FINE in the car, so I’ve never had to use it there.
Firework infested sounds about right. We heard our first bomb last night around 11 PM. The rest of the weekend will be spent in the basement, with yummy foods, a soft crate, and the worst Tom Hanks movies you’ve (n)ever seen.
Sorry you missed the chance to hang out with Lisa in person, but the phone conversation doesn’t sound like it was too shabby. Strangely enough, BlogPaws popped in to my head the other day while I was driving, and I thought about how much I’d like for it to head over to the east coast in coming years.
