FREE e-book "8 Things to Know About Veterinary Care"

September 1, 2009

While I burn time editing videos of Lilly and LuLu, I’ll take a quick minute to share a few more entirely unrelated things I’m loving these days — bedsheets made from Modal, roast chicken salad from Costco, single-serving drink mixes, and pretty much anything from Life is Good.

Modal Bedsheets
I first learned about The Wonder Fabric, Modal years ago while working on an article about high-end lingerie for a big wedding magazine. This crazy-soft fabric is used in all kinds of unmentionables (aka thongs), but they also make bedding out of it. It’s a total revelation to me. I adore flannel sheets in cold weather, which means flannel is on the bed around here from October through June, but I needed something new this year for summer. Voila! Modal sheets. I got mine at Bed, Bath & Beyond.

For me, they are a BIG step up from other kinds of jersey or T-shirt sheets in quality. Fair warning, though, a quick online search reveals that some people are horribly allergic to modal and have skin reactions (blisters, rashes), so if you are one of those super-sensitive skin types, test the fabric first before you buy.

Roast Chicken Salad from Costco
So, did you even wonder what they do with all those whole roasted chickens that were leftover? Well, at Costco, they make them into a tasty chicken salad the next day. It’s pretty pricey ($5/pound), but it’s perfect for lunch or dinner when you’re exhausted, it’s hot, and you simply cannot force yourself to cook.

I’m a big fan of the chicken’s themselves because they are SO much bigger than the ones at other local grocery stores and because they are seasoned perfectly, but in the summer, nothing beats a little chicken salad.

Single-Serving Drink Mixes
I won’t bore you with all the medical details, but suffice it to say that I need to CUT WAY BACK on my sugar consumption. We rarely have pop in the house, and I often just drink water, but I’m suddenly enamored with these little single-serving drink packets (sugar free). I’ve asked Leah Ingram over at Suddenly Frugal to explore the cost ratios since I’m not sure it’s a great money deal. I’d bet that single-serving of anything isn’t a big bargain, but these two are currently winning the popularity contest at Chez Champion of My Heart:

Anything from Life is Good
I am a big fan of Life is Good stuff in general, especially the slogan: “Do what you like. Like what you do.” So, when I went in search of a hat for my sister since she will likely be losing all her hair soon (she begins a YEAR of chemo Sept 10), I found this new hat and got us each one. It reads Optimism Can Take You Anywhere, and that seemed more than appropriate for her cancer treatment journey as well as our ongoing theme here at Champion of My Heart.

So, there you go! A few more shopping and product tips.
